Marguerite Lumsden
DIRECTOR and SENIOR PSYCHOLOGIST
Marguerite is a Generally Registered Psychologist and founder of Lumsden Psychology with over 25 years experience in the mental health area working across the Lifespan. Having completed a Masters Degree in Community & Health Psychology, Marguerite is currently completing her training program as a Health Psychologist Registrar. She worked in Community and Government settings in Foster Care, Child Protection, Cancer Care and Palliative Care, Emergency Services, School Counselling, Disability Services before settling into Private Practice. Affectionately known as Margi by those close to her and her younger clients who find it hard to pronounce her name, Marguerite has trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, Trauma and Interpersonal Therapy. From humble beginnings, she spent many years in Southwest Queensland and is passionate about life and access to quality professional health services for all Australians, and her British White Cattle. The Therapy Herd are part of the Lumsden Psychology Team and compliment Marguerite’s holistic approach to healing, growth and life. Marguerite has a keen interest in the psychological impact of disease, trauma, sleep and pain management and she loves to empower people and communities to flourish to their full potential. She is passionate about Rural Mental Health, loves using her creative flare when working with children and shares a love of performance and sport psychology. With a strong connection to country being a descendant of the Gamilaraay people, you’ll often find Marguerite down the paddock photographing nature, telling yarns around a campfire and tending to the Therapy Herd. Marguerite consults at our Middle Ridge rooms and will continue to provide outreach clinics to our Western clients.
Ashley Watson
PSYCHOLOGIST
Ashley has completed his 4 + 2 internship program in Townsville and will join the team in October 2023 as a Generally Registered Psychologist. While practicing in North Queensland, Ashley gained experience in working with individuals across the lifespan and engaging closely with a multidisciplinary team to optimise client outcomes and also provided outreach rural clinics. Ashley studied his undergraduate program in Brisbane and brings a passion for developing individuals psychological flexibility to better manage emotional distress, pain and psychological suffering. Having worked in the community health and not-for-profit space, Ashley is looking to set roots in private practice and the community in Toowoomba. He has trained in CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, and somatosensory psychotherapy modalities, for treating trauma and emotional disorders, among others. His interests particularly include utilising neurobiology- and attachment-informed work to help people and families behave more adaptively in their environment. Ashley is looking to further complete training in Internal Family Systems model. Outside of the office, you will find Ashley searching for sonorous sounds in classical music or visiting family across Southeast Queensland. Ashely works across the lifespan on a full-time basis at Lumsden Psychology. Based in Toowoomba, Ashley will travel on occasion to connect with his clients at our Roma clinics.
Professor David Crompton OAM
CONSULTANT PSYCHIATRIST

In August 2022 we were blessed to have David joined our team in a part-time capacity. A very experienced Psychiatrist and humble human who started his medical career as a rural GP. Professor Crompton was awarded an Order of Australia (OAM) for development of community based mental health services for veterans, and the development of community Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and anxiety and substance abuse treatment services. In 2022, he was recognised by the Queensland Mental Health Commission for his lifetime contribution to mental health, alcohol and suicide prevention. He has been awarded RANZCP, Margaret Tobin Award (2017) for Leadership in Mental Health Administration, The Bruce Lord for excellence in research methodology, Australian Social Work Journal 2018 RANZCP and the Joan Lawrence award 2019. Professor Crompton worked in private practice as a rural general practitioner prior to commencing psychiatry training and spent 12 years in private psychiatry practice. He subsequently held leadership roles in Queensland Health and New South Wales Health Mental Health Services. Research interests include: – impact of disasters on psychological and physical health in Queensland – treatment PTSD and anxiety – clinical redesign – recovery orientated addiction and mental health care – health economics – suicide – Imaging PTSD – 3D spectroscopy and use of Radiomics for PTSD Management – Microanatomy of memory and stress – novel use of pharmacological agents to prevent fear memories Professor Crompton contributes to a significant number of organisations/committees. His roles include and have included: – Chair Southern Queensland Mental Health Clinical Cluster (Queensland Health) -Australian Council on Health Standards (ACHS) surveyor -Project lead for the activate: mind & body initiative – Head of Centre Trauma, Loss and Disaster Recovery – Clinical Consultant, Translational Research Institute. He holds a number of positions both academic (Institute of Glyconomics, Australian Suicide Research and Prevention, Translational Research Institute (Neuro-imaging) and Adjunct Professor QUT) and Non-Academic (Stride Australia). Professor Crompton works with adults at Lumsden Psychology and consults part time (one day a fortnight) from our Middle Ridge rooms.
Debbie Garrett
CREDENTIALED MENTAL HEALTH NURSE

Debbie is a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Lumsden Psychology Team. Having worked in the health and mental-health arenas across government, non-government as well as the private sectors. She is a qualified counsellor who has trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Having spent many years in Western Queensland, Debbie has a passion for supporting rural communities and individuals, families and adolescents with whom she works. Commencing early career as a theatre nurse before she retrained in counselling whilst raising her family and later completed her Masters in Health Science (Child & Adolescent Health) – Psychology before becoming credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse. She has also since completed her Graduate Certificate in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Debbie will work closely with our Team’s Psychiatrist, as well as provide assessment and therapeutic support to adults and adolescents and families in both Roma and Toowoomba to help them overcome and manage their mental health needs. In her spare time, Debbie enjoys spending time with her animals, walking, gardening and relaxing with a good book.

Chantelle joined our team in 2019 as a then junior receptionist. Her maturity is beyond her years, and she has become an invaluable member of the team at Lumsden Psychology. Having seen the positive impact of psychological intervention and support, Chantelle has commenced her journey as a Psychology Student and continues to learn, grow and flourish in both her studies and administration role.
